Nicola S. Williams is a PhD scholar at The Australian National University’s (ANU) Crawford School of Public Policy, working on a dissertation book project, “How Civil Conflicts End.” Her academic research (quantitative and qualitative) focuses on civil conflict outcomes and termination, rebel group institutions, state-building, peacebuilding, democracy, and federalism. She is a board member of the ANU’s Myanmar Research Centre and is actively involved in public policy engagement.

Nicola has 14 years of professional experience in international development specialising in conflict management, peace processes, and governance in South and Southeast Asia via the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Asia Pacific Regional Centre (APRC), The Asia Foundation (TAF), and other organizations. She has spent more than a decade living and working in Asia on programs spanning Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and the Philippines. Her analysis and commentary have appeared in the New York Times, Voice of America, the ABC, the Strait Times, and Channel News Asia.
